You can choose to climb Mount Kilimanjaro fewer days after climbing Mount Meru, as Meru is a great place to acclimate to high altitudes. The modest Mount Meru is quietly preferred by many climbers of both peaks. Mount Meru is still a very tall peak even if it is around 4,000 feet lower than Mount Kilimanjaro. Never undervalue Mount Meru. Still, acclimating to altitude is essential for a successful summit. Meru

Unlike the other great mountains of East Africa, the Rwenzori are not volcanic; rather, they are a block of rock that has been faulted through the western Rift valley floor. The trek will pass through a variety of flora types, such as afro-alpine moorland, montane forest, bamboo forest, tree heath, and hagenia-rapanea scrub.

Rwenzori Park is home to 70 different mammal species, some of which are rare to observe, such as elephants, giant forest hogs, Rwenzori otters, duikers, bushbucks, and leopards. Primate species include chimpanzees, Angola colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, and black-and-white colobus monkeys.

Over 177 bird species, including 19 indigenous to the Albertine Rift, can be found in the park. The majority can be found in the woodland zone; they include the Lagden's Bush Shrike, the Long-eared Owl, the Rwenzori Turaco, the Slender-billed Starling, the Blue-headed and Golden-winged Sunbird, the White-starred Robin, the Cinnamon-chested Bee-eater, and others.

There are twenty lakes in the mountain ranges, the most accessible of which is Lake Mahoma. Situated in the valley of Mts. Stanley, Baker, and Speke is Lake Bajuku. On the Nyamwamba trail, dams formed a string of eight stunning lakes, including Lake Kitandara.
